While at the Code Conference 2017, Rubin took the stage to unleash the 5. 71 inch phone whose screen occupies the whole top, left and right corners of the phone while still managing to fit an 8MP selfie camera. Essential phone comes with a resolution of 2460 x 1312 IPS screen, 4GB RAM and a monstrous 128GB base storage. Under the hood is a snapdragon 835 and a 3040mAh battery. The version it is running wasn’t mentioned but considering this is the man behind the OS, we expect nothing less than the latest Android 7.1. The main camera on the back is a dual 13MP shooter , one of them being a monochrome sensor for better low light photography; right below the camera is a fingerprint sensor for extra security.
The Essential Phone’s 7.8mm body is built with a ceramic back, Gorilla glass 5 and a titanium frame, rest assured that it can withstand several falls without a scratch.
Rubin kept insisting that there is no bloatware or clutter on the Essential phone to spoil the user experience, in fact, the phone doesn’t even come with a name label.
The device also embraces the modular technology, it comes with two POGO pin connectors at the back to attach hardware components such as a 360 camera, Rubin was keen to point out that it is the thinnest camera of its kind in the world. In addition, there is a dedicated wireless data transfer connector that supports speeds of up to 6Gbps
In terms of pricing and availability, the Essential Phone is already up for pre-order at the price of $699. In case you want the 360 camera too, there is a bundle which costs $750 which includes the phone. Once the pre-order period is over, the camera will be sold at $199; shipping starts on 30th June.
