The US-Africa remittance platform comes on the back of the firm’s recent launch of money transfer services in South Africa. According to Chipper Cash CEO Ham Serunjogi: “So, we’re excited to announce that we’re taking a massive step by launching Chipper Cash in the United States, home to millions of Africans, and the largest remittance corridor into African countries today. Setting up a presence in the United States is part of our mission of increasing access to financial services in Africa.” Founded in 2018, Chipper Cash powers instant peer-to-peer (P2P) payments from the UK and now United States to 8 countries in Africa including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda. The US launch has also seen it integrate Twitter Tips “to allow users to tip users across Africa and to its over 4 million users globally. Chipper Cash, which records over 30,000 new users daily, and up to 100,000 transactions per day will now allow the African diaspora to send money to their loved ones at affordable rates than the present expensive and frustrating platforms with hidden charges and a chain of money agents. According to the firm, payments from the US to Nigeria are free and all users need is to download their app (available on IOS and Android) and securely add funds from their bank account. Chipper Cash started simply but is now one of Africa’s unicorns changing lives globally.
