DStv, a pay-TV company, will limit streaming services to one device in an effort to reduce fraud and revenue loss caused by users reselling or giving away their viewing rights for free. Multichoice, the entertainment platform’s owner, announced in a statement that, starting March 22, multiple users would no longer be able to stream on a DStv at the same time in Kenya and other African regions. The company said: As part of our ongoing efforts to counteract password sharing and piracy, while continuing to bring you the best viewing experience, we will be introducing measures to limit concurrent streaming,” “We will not limit the number of people using a login, however, we are limiting (to one) the number of people who can stream at the same time.” The number of streaming devices registered will not be impacted. Customers may stream material on up to four registered devices at once, with the option to download content to select devices for offline viewing. This allows many family members to watch DStv at the same time. Subscribing customers will find it more difficult to share or sell their watching rights as a result of the change to limit streaming to one device at a time.
