It is designed to let people with unreliable internet connections organize and edit their photos. Just like Google’s regular Photos app, it uses machine learning to organize your photos. Gallery Go also offers some simple-to-use editing tools, such as auto-enhance. You can also apply a number of different filters, and rotate and crop your images. And when you’re done, you can create folders and copy your photos across to an SD card. The difference between it and Google Photos is that Gallery Go is designed to work offline, and only takes up 10MB of space on your phone. Along with updates for Google Maps, Lens and various other things, in Nigeria is where the app was announced. Google has done a similar thing for its operating system by releasing Android Go, a cut back lightweight version for running on inexpensive smartphones that don’t quite have the processing power of today’s flagships. Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and Twitter all have “Lite” versions of their apps for those users; not forgetting Spotify Lite, which launched in July 2019. Google’s Gallery GO is available now to download in the Play Store. It comes pre-installed on the iTel S15 and on select A55 devices which will become available in Nigeria soon. To run it, you’ll need a device that’s running Android 8.1 Oreo or higher. This launch comes just after Google recently hit a milestone. The company is announcing that Google Photos has crossed the billion-user threshold. A little over four years after its debut at the Google I/O conference in May 2015, Google Photos crossed the line earlier this summer. This comes as good news for the company because Gmail took a dozen years to hit a billion users; Facebook and Instagram, about eight years apiece. Which makes Google Photos’ growth spurt not only impressive but unusually rapid. A major reason for the growth spurt could be the fact that Google Photos ships preinstalled on Android phones. This is a powerful mechanism for getting it in front of vast quantities of new users. Not to forget that its also available on the web. Its also known as one of Google’s best apps for the iPhone and iPad as it offers unlimited free storage; as long as you’re okay with having your photos and videos compressed using Google’s optimization algorithm.
