The stalemate has however been averted after the Minister of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Dr. Fred Matiangi moved with speed to put in place a taskforce that will look into the new regulations. Speaking at his Teleposta tower offices Matiangi said that the taskforce will look into the laws and ensure they were in line with demands of technological advancement as well as Kenyans’ needs. The members of the taskforce include Albert Kamunde (chairperson), Dr Akunga Momay of University of Nairobi School of Law, Director of Arigatous International Mustafa Ali, Nation Media Group General Manager Linus Kaikai and the group’s head of legal and training Sekou Owino. “I have duly appointed a task force that shall comprise members who bring a wealth of expertise and experience in the broadcasting industry to review the regulations as contained in Kenya Gazette Notice No 3136 of May 8, 2015,” he said. The team has been given two months from beginning of May 6 to complete its work.
