Widespread protests have taken place across major cities in the US, due to the recent event that led to the death of George Floyd. The uprisings started last week and have escalated significantly over the weekend. Due to the unrest, sony has seen its best to postpone the event. Sony joins other tech companies like Discord and EA who have postponed their events including Google’s Android 11 beta launch this week. Although the companies have not directly tied the postponement to Floyd’s death. Sony had been planning to use Thursday’s event to showcase PS5 games, in an hour-long event with a first look at some of the games people will be playing when the PlayStation 5 launches this holiday season. Noting from the Playstation blog, “The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.” The event was also to showcase new titles for Sony’s next-gen console due out at the end of the year. Sony is yet to confirm the new date for the event.
