5. Jenna Marbles
YouTube success came as a surprise to Jenna Mourey (aka Jenna Marbles). Her weekly videos generally cover pretty mundane topics, like shaving her boyfriend’s face or what girls do in the car. But somehow, she manages to make these topics entertaining and funny enough for her to have amassed over 2 billion views!
6. JacksGap
JacksGap is “a storytelling project inspired by travel”, that’s attracted over 4 million subscribers. At first, this was simply a way for Jack to document his gap year, but the channel grew bigger than he ever could have imagined. Many of the videos follow Jack and his friends on wild adventures around the world, many of which raise money for charity. Others focus on more thoughtful topics, such as the above video on climate change.
7. VlogBrothers
John and Hank are the stars behind VlogBrothers, and they’re both hoping to “raise nerdy to the power of awesome.” This is a channel where two grown men are able to completely geek out, educate, and entertain. Their unstoppable curiosity leads the brothers to create videos covering topics from death and earthquakes, to politics and travel.
8. PewDiePie
PewDiePie is the undisputed king of YouTube vloggers in terms of subscriber numbers. His videos were originally video game streams, but as his channel became more popular, the kinds of videos published started to change, too. Most videos on the channel now consist of witty rants about random things PewDiePie finds online. It’s more entertaining than it sounds, though some find his personality a little too… intense.
